General Role & Applications of External Backstops
External backstops play a critical role in the belt conveyor and bucket elevator systems used across a wide range of industries. They stop the driveshaft from rotating in the wrong direction, which protects the motor from running in reverse and prevents the machine from moving backward in the event of power loss. These functions are especially important in applications involving the conveyance of heavy materials on an incline or over long distances at high speeds. In these situations, a reversal in the operation of the motor or the movement of the machine can lead to employee injury or equipment damage.
